We Went Missing (by Tuk)

Jack is really quite a naughty puppy.  He can't really help himself, he just doesn't ever seem to think before charging ahead with some crazy idea he gets in his pea-brain.  I try and try to show him how to be a good dog, but I guess he's still just too young.

Today was really bad.  Mom got really mad at us, and even though she said she was just scared, I know she was mad.  It was all Jack's fault.  You see, he's figured out a way to open the gate that leads out to the street. 

There was no rain this morning so Mom let us outside.  After about 1 second, Jack tried the gate.  Even though it is ALWAYS locked, he ALWAYS tries to open it.  Well, what Mom didn't know was that the gardeners had forgotten to lock it back up after their visit this morning.  You can imagine how surprised we were when it opened right up for Jack.  We looked at each other and Jack said he was going to explore.  I told him it was a bad idea, but he didn't listen and he took off straight away out the gate.  I didn't think it was safe for him to go alone - he is just a puppy - so against my better judgment, I followed him.  Just to be sure he was ok.  Just to keep him safe.

Well, eventually Mom came looking for us and she was yelling and crying and hustled us back into the yard.  She scolded us for a long time and then she hugged us and kissed us and cried and cried.  I felt terrible.  She thought I'd taken off to have some fun like that naughty puppy, but honest I was only trying to keep my eye on him for her.  I don't know when he is ever going to grow up.

When Mom came outside for us, she saw my spot without me in it.

Then she noticed the gate was open.

 

She ran out the gate and looked down the drive, and we were not there.

Then she looked to the right.  We weren't there.

And to the left.  We weren't there.

She did finally find us way down the street and after she got us home (after she got done scolding us), I went right to my spot.

And here's that idiot Jack trying to apologize.

Naughty, naughty boy. Thank goodness you have Uncle Tuk to *try* to keep you on the straight and narrow! Poor Mom! You boys are going to give her a heart attack. You look sorry, though. Who can stay mad at that face?
